Mixed Fillings

Chef Natasha Burton is a classically trained chef who took up cooking as a hobby after the recession in 2008. She decided to make cooking a career and has opened many businesses since then, her first being in 2012. Burton graduated culinary school in 2011 and decided to pursue baking as a career, a hobby she has loved since age six.

Burton previously lived in Dallas, Texas and moved to Jacksonville to pursue both of her passions: her pie shop, Mixed Fillings, and her non-profit, Society of Survivors.

Burton started Society of Survivors in August of 2018, where her mission was to “end childhood sexual abuse by helping victims become survivors and empowering survivors to become advocates.”

The organization is close to her heart, she says, “I shared with my family and friends that I was a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I was a runaway for 20 years, no one knew why I had left.” Burton went on to say, “While living in Dallas, I searched for support groups and there weren’t any around, so I created one, and the rest is history.”

Her passions “go hand in hand;” she expresses how most good conversation is surrounded by food. Her main vision of owning her own pie shop was trying to start a conversation about childhood sexual abuse over quality pie.

Baking expresses a creative outlet for Burton and she is rewarded by “seeing a grown up squeal, like jump up and down over a piece of pie.”

Mixed Fillings opened in May of 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic. Their business model has been pre-order on their website to try and achieve maximum efficiency and a no waste business.

Burton expressed that Covid-19 has not affected business. She says, “people in Jacksonville love pie.”

Burton has developed many unique pie flavors such as butterscotch filling with a pretzel crust.

Mixed Fillings is a seasonal shop, and their menu is changing near the end of September to include all sorts of fall flavors.

Burton is “looking for people that are open minded, honest, and that like pie.”  The main message she wants customers to take away from her shop is “it’s what’s inside the pie that counts.” She wants to remind people that morals and character are all that matters.

Burton has been kind enough to offer a 25% discount to Bolles students, faculty, and staff with the promo code BOLLESWAY on her website, valid until 11/30/2020.
