Lower School Students Rehearse for Spring Concert with Upper School Mentorship
January 29, 2016
Rehearsals are underway for the dance company’s spring dance concert; and as elementary school dancers practice their dances, high school dancers practice the art of mentorship.
At the recital, high school students will provide support by acting as shadows, dancing behind the younger students onstage.
Liza Rose Dickson, grade one, said of working with the dance mentors, “They are amazing! Awesome! They’re so nice and kind.”
The dance department flourishes under Ms. Blackledge’s leadership, and each year’s spring recital is the culmination of a year’s hard work. Liza Rose continued, “Ms. B’s dance is awesome because we really get to move!”
High school dancers will lead their younger counterparts onstage, and then mirror the dance steps onstage in case a child forgets the choreography.
Marcy Fisher (’16) enjoys mentoring as much as dancing: “This is actually my second year in the children’s piece. It’s really cool because you get to see them grow over the years.”
This connection between upper and lower school dancers provides the camaraderie that is the backbone of the Bolles dance department!
