Football Across Borders

The 2016 Bolles Football team made history in their first international game against Tec De Monterrey of Mexico. The Tec de Monterrey Football team has experience playing high competition in Texas and California, but the matchup with the bulldogs was their first in Florida.

The game meant more for the team because it was senior night. Amari Terry (’17) said it was, “Being apart of history, and being honored for senior night made it ten times sweeter.”

Every week, the football team prepares for each opponent by watching film during activities. Since Tec De Monterrey is not an American school, they do not have access to the film site, Hudl. Because the coaching staff had no film on their opponent, they Bulldogs had to make an extra effort be on top of their game.

Terry mentioned that during the week leading up to the game he gained at least twenty social media followers from players on the opposing team. He said, “it was cool that they found us on Twitter and Instagram, and then putting faces to the names after the game was amazing. I’ve never experienced anything like it.”

The game was a blowout with Bolles coming out on top 59-15, but sportsmanship between the teams was contagious. The opposing players were just happy to be there, playing the game they love. The Bulldogs finished the regular season 9-0, and will continue their push for a state championship during the postseason.
