An Apple a Day Keeps Microsoft Away
January 10, 2017
After news recently came out through Student Council about Bolles’ plans to completely switch to Microsoft products next year, students expressed mixed opinions. Once the idea was passed through Student Council and approved by students and teachers, all Bolles students and teachers were informed of this new change.
The reason Bolles has decided to switch to Microsoft, according to Student Council member Ann Maris Walton ‘18, is because “Microsoft computers are easier to write on and allow for better note taking.”
Starting next year, students are required to bring their own Microsoft devices to school to help them with note taking and other tasks in class. While many Bolles students have Mac laptops, others already have Microsoft Surfaces, and so this new change has already brought a variety of responses before even going into effect.
Bugle staff member Kris McQueen ‘18 claims that “many people who own Macs prefer Microsoft products.”
Out of the entire Bugle staff, about 63% prefer Mac computers or Apple products whereas 37% like Microsoft computers. Similarly, out of 35 Bolles students surveyed, 62% have Mac computers and prefer them over Microsoft. On the other hand, 38% like Microsoft computers over Macs.
Many seniors have stated that they are happy they won’t have to buy a Microsoft since an outstanding number of them own and prefer Macs over Microsoft.
“Macs are just generally better and it’s nice when you can share things through the iCloud.” Remy Frohman ‘17 stated.
However, Andrew Culver ‘17 vouches for Microsoft, claiming that “MacBook Pro was included but not recommended in Consumer Reports this year.” Bugle staff member Duncan Evans ‘17 also prefers Microsoft, noting that they “are cheaper and you get more bang for your buck.”
