Coach Bush and Coach Denmark’s Last Spike
February 1, 2017
At a varsity volleyball meeting held on Monday, January 30th, both Coach Bush and Coach Denmark announced that they will be stepping down as upper school varsity volleyball coaches for the upcoming season next fall.
Coach Bush has dedicated the last 31 years to serving the Bolles community as the head volleyball coach, leading the girls to one state title, five runner-up finishes, 19 state final four appearances, and 22 district titles.
This past season, Coach Bush led her girls to the regional finals, supported her athletes as they made various athletic commitments, all while surviving ovarian cancer.
Izzy Schwam (‘18), a dedicated volleyball player currently being recruited by several division one universities, said: “For me, she became a representation of strength. She was so strong fighting cancer and she was an amazing coach. She made volleyball so much fun, I will always remember her with a smile on her face.”
Ultimately, Coach Bush has decided to step down as the head coach due to both health and personal priorities.
Coach Denmark, who joined the Bolles staff in 1995, has dedicated her career to serving as the dean of students and guiding Bolles volleyball players to a successful athletic careers in college.
As a college volleyball player, Coach Denmark gives her athletes invaluable advice in technique, playing at the collegiate level, and, of course, appropriate skirt length.
Coach Denmark chose to step down as assistant coach due to family priorities.
Together, Coach Bush and Coach Denmark have dedicated 53 years of service to Bolles volleyball. Throughout those years these coaches have taught their athletes not only technique, but also the values of friendship and team camaraderie.
Students can still look forward to having these two women as sources of support, as Mrs. Denmark will remain a dean and Coach Bush plans to continue advising students.
